Tapantí - Cerro de la Muerte National Park is an area covered by dense evergreen forest, consisting mainly of species like the ancient Oak Tree (Quercus sp) or the Jaul (Alnus acuminata). It contains 211 species of birds as well as many mammals like the jaguar (Pantera onca) and the ocelot (Leopardus pardalis). Most of the area is completely unexplored due the extreme density of the forest. The reserve is a good place to see the famous Quetzal (Pharomachrus mocinno).
